Pathway to Health Care

The Pathway to Health Care Programs is a twenty-week certificate program that equips students with essential academic and foundational student success skills required in health care-related programs. Graduates will be prepared for further studies in the Diploma Practical Nursing, Primary Care Paramedicine, and Bachelor of Nursing programs. The program will be offered with an in-person cohort in Thompson, and with students in other locations joining classes virtually.

Program Overview

Students will be introduced to the multifaceted world of health care. The program will enhance their knowledge of mathematics, science, and communications and familiarize them with the vocabulary and terminology of health care. Students will also develop and apply a holistic sense of self to their academic endeavours and professional aspirations. Guest lecturers and facilities tours will share Healthcare Opportunities and realities in Northern and Indigenous communities.

  • NUR.0100 Medical Terminology NUR.1028 Communications for Nursing
  • MTL.1200 Health Care Exploration: Bridging Theory and Practice
  • ALC.4315 Essential Math 40S or MTL.1210 Mathematics for Health Care Programs
  • ALC.4520 Biology 40S or MTL.1230 Science for Health Care Programs
  • ABS.1001 Waskawimakanwa Mecimwaci Isihtwawina (12 hours)

Students will be guided through the application process for the various UCN health care programs.
