Institutional Analysis & Planning

Welcome to the Department of Institutional Analysis & Planning (IAP).

The purpose of IAP is to collaborate with all areas of UCN and provide timely information to support informed decision-making at UCN through the collection, analysis and dissemination of data. Having a central repository for data ensures UCN is providing consistent and up-to-date information to our staff, faculty, students and community.

Our Main Functions Include:

Statistical Reporting

  • Maintaining and reporting statistical compendium to the Council of Post-Secondary Education.
  • Preparing internal statistical reports on student and staffing data.
  • Providing program statistics for our Annual Academic Report.
  • Make recommendations pertaining to the collection of institutional data.
  • Maintain integrity of UCN databases and identify data errors
  • Analyze historical data to identify trends.
  • Central access point for UCN statistical reports.

On-line Reports

  • Provide accessible reports to internal departments.
  • Monitor and maintain up-to-date on-line reports.
  • Consult with staff in the development of new reports.

Outcomes Assessment (OA)

  • Coordinate and monitor the OA process throughout UCN.
  • Facilitate OA workshops as requested.
    Implement and maintain Tracdat (OA software that links multiple levels of assessment).
  • Facilitate Tracdat workshops semi-annually.
  • Review institutional OA reporting semi-annually.

Strategic Planning

  • Align OA with the UCN strategic plan.
    Measure and assess how each area of the institution is contributing to the strategic plan.
  • Produce evidence that UCN is working towards meeting their strategic goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with all areas of the institution in the collection of information.
  • Create annual Strategic Plan Update report.

Surveys

  • Central access point for institutional surveys.
  • Develop, disseminate, analyze and report on institutional surveys.
  • Identify satisfaction levels, awareness of services, and required resources.
  • Conduct various student surveys.
    Support Academic & Research in the implementation and maintenance of Student Course Evaluations.
  • Systematic collection and analysis of various institutional data.
  • Explore ways to increase response rates to surveys and evaluations.
  • Facilitate focus groups

Policies

  • Central access point for UCN operational policies.
  • Responsible for ensuring UCN operational policies remain up-to-date and relevant.
  • Maintain an updated listing of all operational policies on the UCN website.
  • Keep UCN staff updated on all new and revised operational policies.

  • Enrolment Trend Analysis
  • Graduate Satisfaction and Employment Report
  • Annual Staffing Report
  • Strategic Plan Update

Special Projects

  • Needs assessments
  • Provide research, support and guidance to implement institutional directives.
  • Engaged in setting priorities that align our institutional data needs with our institutional goals.
  • Consult and coordinate with internal departments in special projects and surveys.

The majority of reports we provide are created for internal purposes and may not be distributed outside of UCN without prior approval from the department. Every reasonable effort is made to assure the accuracy of the information we provide, but data may be subject to updates and correction without notice.
