University College of the North (UCN) is committed to inclusion, and to building and maintaining a diverse organization, and respecting all people’s abilities. UCN is committed to ensuring equal access and participation for all employees, students and other stakeholders, and treating people in a manner which allows dignity and independence. UCN is committed to meeting the needs of all people who face accessibility barriers by identifying, preventing and removing such barriers and by meeting all requirements of The Accessibility for Manitobans Act.

UCN is committed to providing equality of opportunity for all individuals enrolled in its programs of study. This includes providing individuals with documented disabilities fair and equal access to educational programs, services, and facilities.

The Student Accessibility Service Office (SASO) is located in the Learners’ Assistance Centres in both The Pas and Thompson campuses. Student Accessibility Service strives to provide accessible learning opportunities, and reasonable accommodations, for all UCN registered students, with permanent and/or temporary, documented disabilities of all types: mental, physical, neurological or medical conditions.

Some accommodations may include alternate format materials, separate space for tests or exams, proper assistive devices and equipment, referrals and requests for tutoring, invigilation, proctor and note takers as needed.

Any students seeking academic accommodation are encouraged to drop by the Learners’ Assistance Centre (LAC) at both locations for more information.

The UCN Libraries offer text to speech and the National Network for Equitable Access (NNELS) service.
