IUS, The Universities and You

IUS represents the four Manitoba universities delivering university courses in communities north of latitude 53.  It is your connection with the university but is not a university itself.
The IUS staff provide student support services:
• academic counseling
• study skills assistance
• library services
• general needs

Information About IUS and Partnering Universities

The university calendars are detailed and full of information, some relevant to you and some not.  The index will direct you to specific information. IUS is a department within UCN, please refer to calendars on IUS.

The Off-Campus Student

Off-campus students really are university students.  You are as much a university student as any on-campus student.
The degree requirements and course quality are genuine.  Academic requirements are the same for off-campus and on-campus students.
Off-campus instructors often teach on campus.  Instructors are always approved by the universities to teach their courses.

Access to the Instructor

Off-campus students have ready access to their instructors:
• office hours
• telephone contact
• face to face contact while in the community
• UCNLearn
Off-campus students have the opportunity to get to know their instructors.  Often instructors are in your community for many hours and, in some cases days when they are not teaching.
Ask for their help, invite them to community activities, have them into your home, talk to them on an informal level.  Most appreciate becoming involved with their students and it will be in your best interests to get to know them.
