Skills and Aptitude Assessments

Academic testing is done in a number of ways depending what it is needed.

General Aptitude Test Battery (GATB)

Candidates are tested in the areas of nine occupational aptitudes:
General Learning Ability
Verbal
Numerical
Spatial
Form Perception
Clerical Perception
Motor Coordination
Manual Dexterity
Finger Dexterity

These aptitudes are measured by paper-and-pencil tests and manual assessments.

Employment Readiness Scale (ERS)

Employment Readiness Scale is designed to assess clients’ strengths and challenges in relation to becoming successfully employed. It identifies the types of assistance that would be most helpful. It measures changes as a result of interventions and predicts employment outcomes.

Degrees in Reading Power (DRP)

The Degrees in Reading Power measures how well students understand the surface meaning of what they are reading. They measure the process of reading rather than the products of reading such as main ideas and the authors’ purpose.

Canadian Adult Achievement Test (CAAT)

The CAAT test helps determine the individual’s present educational level and readiness for literacy instruction, general academic upgrading, core skills development and vocational selection.
