Misipawistik Cree Nation (Formerly Grand Rapids First Nation in Cree language meaning “Rushing Rapids”) is a Cree speaking community population of approximately 1500 members.
 
Misipawistik Cree Nation (Grand Rapids) has local Businesses and Services; MCN Grocery Store and Pelican Landing Shell Station owned and operated; other local businesses; Grand Rapids Esso Bar and Restaurant, North Brook Inn, Recreation; Grand Rapids Area; E.T. Trucking Service, Grand Rapids Taxi, Grey Hound Canada, Median Credit Union, Emergency Calls Ambulance, Fire Station, RCMP.
 
The Misipawistik Cree Nation University College Training Centre MCN is located near Grand Rapids, Manitoba, 500 kilometers north of Winnipeg, and is accessible via PTH 6.
 
Misipawistik Cree Nation and the University College of the North agreed in principle to develop a Regional Centre in Grand Rapids.
 
The doors of the Misipawistik Regional Centre were open in July 2007 and began providing community based post secondary and adult education opportunities for its members.
 
Misipawistik Cree Nation membership and administration, continues to respond to the education needs and focus on student support and the importance of trades programs.
 
An Advisory Board provides direction on program delivery. The board is made up of four community representatives and two UCN representatives.

The University College of the North Regional Centre is committed to providing education and training services to meet the needs of individuals, industry, business, agencies and community organization throughout northern Manitoba.
