The Pimicikamak Regional Centre is located in the northern community of Cross Lake, Manitoba at the north of the Nelson River where it crosses the lake; 520 air kilometers north of Winnipeg, and 130 kilometers south of Thompson. The population base of the community is approximately 6300 people with the main traditional lifestyles of trapping, hunting, and commercial fishing.

In 1998, the school board and administration of the Cross Lake Education Authority and representatives of Keewatin Community College entered into discussions to establish a partnership arrangement to support a Regional Centre in Cross Lake. This successful partnership created the model for additional regional centres that followed. The partnership arrangement has enabled the Cross Lake Education Authority to deliver more community based programming at lower cost.

The following certificate, diploma and degree programs have been delivered as community based programs since 1999: College Preparation, General Studies, Health Care Aide, Transition Year, Business Administration, Computerized Business Applications, Early Childhood Education, Small Motor Repair, Heavy Equipment Operator, Automotive Mechanics, Basic Electrical, and Pre-Employment Plumbing and Kenanow Bachelor of Education. The Mature Student program is also delivered to adult students who wish to earn their high school diploma.

The regional centre exceeds 100 students registered in various programs including Adult Education, college certificate and diploma programs, and university degrees. Delivery of some of these programs have been made possible in part by Cross Lake Education Authority entering into cost sharing arrangements with Cross Lake First Nation Pathways and Manitoba Employment & Training. Cross Lake Education also has a partnership arrangement with University College of the North to deliver the five year Kenanow education program in the community. Students in this program will complete their studies by June 2021.

The regional centre has an advisory board that provides direction for program delivery. The Regional Centre Advisory Board is comprised of four community representatives and two UCN representatives.
