UCN Plays Role In Land Reclamation And Restoration

During the week of Feb. 20 to 24, 2017, Rob Penner, Associate Vice-President of the College of Trades and Technology and Executive Director of the Northern Manitoba Mining Academy, was invited to facilitate a curriculum development project at Royal Roads University, Victoria, BC. Funded by Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, the project entailed working with a group of restoration and land reclamation practitioners to develop a community-based hands-on program entitled Healing the Land: Community Based Training in Land Reclamation. Targeting sites degraded by industrial activity, initial delivery of the program will focus on the landscape impacted by oil and gas development in the Peace River Country of BC, and will initially involve two First Nations, West Moberly and Saulteau, in the Peace Country.
